Eastern

Eastern combat is fought with full-contact blunt steel weapons. Valid target areas include the head, shoulders, upper arms, and the body down to the knee. This ruleset is suited to both one-on-one duels and large-scale battles, and forms the foundation for all new fighters as they begin their training.

Huscarl

Huscarl builds on Eastern combat by expanding the available target zones. In addition to the standard targets, strikes to the forearms, hands, and below the knee are also permitted. This creates a more demanding and technical style of fighting that requires tighter defensive structure, sharper footwork, and greater control.

Engagements

Combat takes place in a range of formats depending on scale and setting. Skirmishes involve smaller groups or one-on-one fights, focusing on individual skill and tactical awareness, while mass battles bring together large numbers of fighters in organised large-scale clashes. We take part in both local UK events and international competitions throughout the year.

Shield Wall

The shield wall is a core formation used in mass battle scenarios, combining both defensive and offensive capability. It relies on coordination, trust, and communication between fighters, where positioning and timing are just as important as individual skill. Mastery of the shield wall is essential to effective large-scale combat and is a key part of our tactical approach.
